Fountain pen sketch with watercolor washes.
This one got pretty muddy. I drew it with fountain pen during the ceremony and painted the watercolor washes this morning on Mike’s porch as the wind picked up and started blowing things around. The flag closest to the speaker got muddy. I put a second wash on the larger figure right of center and spoiled the nice transparent dark that was the initial wash. When values and hue begin to falter I have a tendency to do a bit of splatter that might bring life back to the sketch. Had I maintained a lighter value in the muddy flag, the color wouldn’t have mattered and the composition would have maintained it’s sense of movement.
